What to expect during or after the treatment? With the modern technique most of the patients remain comfortable during and after the procedure. For first few days your teeth may be sensitive and feel slight pain. Medications are usually prescribed to tackle the situation. After completion of procedure and seating of crown slightly different than the other tooth is the usual feeling.
PROCEDURE
Usually performed in 2 or 1 visits. X-rays of the tooth is examined, and local anesthesia is administered to the patient so that the tooth becomes numb. Pulp chamber of the tooth is accessed by making a small opening in the crown. Small and specialized instruments are used to clean the pulp chamber and the root canals. The root canals are then cleaned and shaped. After cleaning the canal, the empty space is filled with gutta percha a rubber like material along with a sealant. Intermediate filling is used to close the opening temporarily between the sittings. After that a crown or other restoration is placed on tooth for protection. Care after the treatment No forceful biting or chewing until the tooth is fully restored. Good oral hygiene should be maintained, including brushing, flossing, and regular checkups. Most of the root canal treated tooth last quite a long time. Occasionally tooth may become diseased and painful again after some period of treatment.
